Juneteenth is a holiday celebrating the official end of slavery in the United States. It specifically marks the day on June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced General Order No. 3, which proclaimed the freedom of enslaved people in Texas. This occured more than 2 years after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emanicipation Proclamation.
